After travelling to Italy and re-connecting with our heritage, we enjoyed drinking the Montepulciano Wine at local Osterias and bars. We wanted to share this experience with Australia.

Montepulciano the grape varietal is from the Abruzzo region, Italy.

It is often confused with the town in Tuscany, which shares the same name.

After moving from Melbourne to Porarlington, we decided to start a small vineyard. We planted the Montepulciano grapes, which is a new variety to the area, not knowing if it would ripen, however it suits the climate really well.

Our first vintage was released in 2022.

The closest grape variety to Montepulciano wine would be Shiraz. The flavours of Montepulciano include a hint of oregano, pepper, pomegranate and red fruit. Very food friendly, especially with Italian based red sauce pastas, antipasti and cheeses.

The vineyard, Terra Nera (meaning black soil), was named after the rich black volcanic soil. Situated high up on the hills behind the town, facing north-west, in Porgtarlington Victoria.

The vineyard is overlooking Port Phillip Bay, You Yangs, Melbourne & Geelong City skyline.
